Soft Power, the means to success in World Politics

In the 1880s, Mark Twain complained about “The Awful German Language”.  Certainly he had a point with confusing genders and the constant wonder when to use the formal or informal “you”.  However, new trends are showing more people learning the German language worldwide!  We are seeing people learning German to boost their careers, to find work in Germany or just to tap into the quality German exports.

As more people are learning the language, they are also learning to understand the culture.  Most view Germans as honest and trustworthy.  This persuasive approach to international relations, typically involving the use of economic or cultural influence has raised Germany to a new level of influence.  They do not need military power to make a statement heard.  People are listening to Germany’s economic strength and soft power.
