Our second German School Phoenix student in the spotlight is Lim Angela Tchoi, who is in the intermediate class. Every student that shows up in class on Saturdays has a different story, a different background, and a different motivation for studying German.  In this article we’ll introduce you to Lim.

About Lim:  Lim was born in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to the Los Angeles area with her family when she was nine years old. At that point she had already been studying piano for five years. She continued her musical education at the University of Southern California, earning a Bachelor of Music degree and a master’s degree in piano performance. She came to Arizona to attend Arizona State University and is near completion of a doctorate in performance and pedagogy.

Lim’s Reason for Learning German:  Lim explained that studying languages is a natural compliment to her love of music, since understanding the language of the great composers helps to better understand their music. She’s a finalist for winning a Fulbright Scholarship, which would allow her to study in Germany. As it turns out, Lim’s interest in Germany and the German language may be inherited. She recently discovered that her father had studied German and had received an offer to study in Germany, but couldn’t afford to go there.

Lim said that she chose German School Phoenix to help her build on two semesters of German at a community college years ago because she wanted the benefit of face-to-face instruction at a reasonable fee, and with a flexible schedule.

Something about Lim that Might Surprise You:  For a while Lim was studying French and German at the same time, then studied French and Italian at the same time. Though she’s been an avid language student for many years, she hasn’t been to Europe yet. With such talent and dedication, that situation is sure to change soon.
